We are seeking a Senior Primary Health Care (PHC) Nurse to join the RFDS team in Cairns. In this hands-on role, working within a close-knit team, you’ll help us make a real difference to people’s lives and to the future of our organisation.

The RFDS offers exciting opportunities to fly in/fly out to rural and remote communities in Northern Queensland making a difference where it is needed most – in the lives and health of children and families living, travelling and working in Queensland’s remote communities. Nurses provide essential healthcare services through the delivery of RFDS Primary Health Care clinics, across the life span.

Reporting to the Manager - Clinical and Base Operations you will work as a member of a small nursing and allied health team providing clinical services and as the Senior PHC Nurse will take on additional duties to provide support and supervision to the team based in Cairns ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of services. You will also hold reporting line responsibilities for the Field Day Coordinator and Project Officer/Community Support Officer for the Strong Fathers Strong Families program (all highly-autonomous roles).

Who are we looking for?

You are an experienced and high-performing Registered Nurse with AHPRA registration, with exceptional patient care and equal commitment to contributing to team and operational goals.

In addition, you will have:

  • A minimum four years of postgraduate nursing experience and experience and/or qualifications related to Primary Health Care
  • Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. (This will need to be obtained prior to starting employment, or shortly thereafter).
  • Post graduate experience/qualification may include: Midwifery, Child and Family Health, Women's health, Immunisation, Public Health, Health Promotion, or Chronic Disease
  • Experience in managing rosters, and providing supervision and/or mentoring to a small team

Previous experience in rural and remote health and/or working with indigenous families would be beneficial. You must be willing to stay overnight in remote and indigenous communities and fly on a light aircraft.

Please note: This role will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. You will also be required to be eligible to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
