Today, the RFDS (Queensland Section) has nine bases across the state plus the Corporate Office, services an area of 1,727,200 sq. km, and provided care to more than 91,000 patients in the last year. With over 350 professional and dedicated staff spread across aviation, medical, nursing and support service disciplines, RFDS Queensland Section is a diverse and complex health service provider.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is offering nursing midwifery scholarships to offer financial assistance toward completion of a midwifery course.
There will be three midwifery scholarships ranging from $8,500 to $10,000, two will be supported by Dalara Foundation and one supported by Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia.
The successful applicants will be required to complete the midwifery course and then work for a minimum of 12 months at any base within the RFDS (Qld Section) (nominated by the RFDS).
The Scholarships will provide financial support to those Nurses so they may gain this important qualification. These scholarships are to be used for costs associated with your study towards a Midwifery Qualification in 2019/2020 such as course fees, text books, etc.
Who can apply?
- Registered nurses who have relevant experience or qualifications in emergency or critical care nursing are invited to apply for a midwifery scholarship as advertised.
- Scholarships are for study commencing in 2019
- Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia
- Registered as a General Nurse in Australia with AHPRA.
- Post graduate experience including a minimum three to five years’ experience in a critical care environment in either a recognised Major Regional or Tertiary Hospital Emergency Department, with a 24 hour in-department medical coverage or a recognised Intensive Care Unit. The required time can consist of critical care experience across both environments.
- Acceptance into a relevant midwifery course conducted by an approved and accredited provider OR ability to prove acceptance into a relevant midwifery course conducted by an approved and accredited provider within 1 month of scholarship success notification.
- A willingness to work at any RFDS (Qld Section) Base within 12 months of successful completion of the midwifery studies, as per RFDS (Qld Section) requirements.
The approved course, leading to endorsement as a Midwife and any other post graduate midwifery program requirements, may be completed in any state of Australia. The course being considered by the applicant must be approved by the RFDS (QLD Section).
