Mental Health Clinicians for Drought Wellbeing Service
Longreach and Mount Isa
Whenever and wherever people in Queensland needs us the most, we're there.
That's how it's been for almost a century. Join us and help us keep it that way.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Qld) is seeking Mental Health Clinicians to work as part of the Drought Wellbeing Team and become vital contributors in increasing our services for communities and areas affected by drought in Queensland. The team provides community based mental health outreach services with a focus on early intervention and mental health promotion.
- Fixed-term, full-time until 30 June 2018
- Location: Mount Isa and Longreach
Our people are central to our organisation's mission, and are people who must:
- Be passionate about providing the finest care to people in Queensland;
- Go above and beyond to drive a positive, cohesive team culture – helping each other to help others;
- Embrace the challenges our organisation faces - have the motivation to help us thrive in a competitive, commercial, KPI-driven environment
Our clinicians are flexible in the delivery of non-traditional service models, and are willing to listen to community groups and leaders to ensure our programs are relevant to rural community needs. This is an ideal opportunity for those who are looking to advance their mental health career in an exciting, supportive environment, or a new direction for established practitioners to increase their autonomy and challenge the constraints of mainstream services.
Our clients often live hundreds of kilometers from services and may have different priorities to their metropolitan counterparts. We understand that people are busy and that psychological strategies need to be delivered flexibly and creatively to be relevant to our client group. We passionately believe that services can be delivered as effectively out of the back of a horse float, as they can from a consult room, and that a meat and livestock forum may be another opportunity to access health care!
Why join us?
The Furthest Corner, the Finest Care is our company motto and this is reflected in our delivery of mental health support to some of hardest to reach target groups. We strive to employ highly skilled clinicians to have the right conversation, with the right person at the right time.
In return for your skills, energy and commitment to our goals, we offer you the opportunity to make a real impact in Queensland communities and truly help others. You’ll work every day with people who are passionate about our purpose and proud of their contribution to our iconic organisation.
Your contribution will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package plus salary packaging arrangements, relocation assistance and rural living incentives. In addition, you’ll have the unique opportunity to travel across outback Queensland and see how your actions positively impact communities.
We will support you in your endeavour to develop new skills in a close-knit team which encourages the sharing of ideas and knowledge, and prepared to invest in your professional development.
Who we are looking for?
Someone who has Tertiary Mental Health qualifications in the professional areas of Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Nursing. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or membership with Australian Association Social Workers (AASW) is essential.
This rare and exciting opportunity is presented to those with a passion for providing psychological support and strategies within hard to target populations and have a sense of adventure in how they will achieve this. You will be comfortable engaging with the rural community, and may even be from the bush, have family ties to the country, or simply a genuine interest and curiosity about life outside the city.
Please note: This role will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and will be subject to criminal history check and will require a working with children bluecard
