Mental Health Clinicians

Job No: RFDS219
Location: Longreach

About us:

Longreach Mental Health and Wellbeing Service is a hub from which clinicians’ travel out to more remote and rural locations to provide and enhance mental health care to people living and working in regional, rural and remote Queensland.

  • Fixed-term, full-time until 30 June 2018 (multiple roles)
  • Location: Longreach

The Roles:

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Qld) is seeking Mental Health Clinicians to join our Longreach team to increase the provision of services to those rural communities that would otherwise have little or no access to mental health supports. This is an ideal opportunity for those who are looking to advance their mental health career in an exciting, supportive environment, or for established practitioners to increase their autonomy.

If you relish the challenge of working with a diverse group across Central West Queensland, and would appreciate the autonomy of running your own clinics, this is an opportunity not to be missed. There will be plenty of driving to clinics in the outback, where you will provide a range of clinical interventions. In addition, there will be opportunities to develop, deliver, and promote activities that enhance the social and emotional wellbeing of Queenslanders.

Why join us?

The Furthest Corner, the Finest Care is our company motto and this is reflected in our delivery of mental health support to some of hardest to reach target groups. We strive to employ highly skilled clinicians to have the right conversation, with the right person at the right time.

In return for your skills, energy and commitment to our goals, we offer you the opportunity to make a real impact in Queensland communities and truly help others. You’ll work every day with people who are passionate about our purpose and proud of their contribution to our iconic organisation.

Your contribution will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package plus salary packaging arrangements, relocation assistance and rural living incentives. In addition, you’ll have the unique opportunity to travel across outback Queensland and see how your actions positively impact communities.

We will support you in your endeavour to develop new skills in a close-knit team which encourages the sharing of ideas and knowledge, and prepared to invest in your professional development.

Who are we looking for?

Someone who has Tertiary Mental Health qualifications in the professional areas of Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Nursing.  Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or membership with Australian Association Social Workers (AASW) is essential.

This rare and exciting opportunity is presented to those with a passion for providing psychological support and strategies within hard to target populations and have a sense of adventure in how they will achieve this. You will be comfortable engaging with the rural community, and may even be from the bush, have family ties to the country, or simply a genuine interest and curiosity about life outside the city.

For further detail around responsibilities, KPI’s and criteria please request a draft position description.

There are also three ‘must-haves’ that we look for in every employee of RFDS (Queensland section). We want people who:

  1. Are passionate about providing the finest care to people in Queensland;
  2. Go above and beyond to drive a positive, cohesive team culture – helping each other to help others;
  3. Embrace the challenges our organisation faces - having the motivation to help us thrive in a competitive, commercial, KPI-driven environment

Please note: This role will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and will be subject to criminal history check.
