About the Role

We now have an opportunity for a Payroll Officer to join RFDS as a member of our People and Corporate Services team. This role is based at 5-7 Lobelia Circle, Brisbane International Airport, and is being offered on a permanent part-time basis.We are looking for someone to work 0.8 FTE, with a possible potential to drop back to 0.6-0.7 FTE after the first few months if requested. There is a degree of flexibility on offer around the hours/days worked - this will be discussed with candidates at interview stage.

Reporting to the HR Manager, this is a highly autonomous role that will see you overseeing the accurate and timely end-to-end payroll process for approximately 350 RFDS Queensland employees (most salaried). RFDS will also be transitioning to a new payroll system (Sage MicrOpay) in the coming months, and the Payroll Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring this process runs smoothly.

Your day-to-day duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Ensuring the end-to-end process of the fortnightly payroll including filing;
  • On-going maintenance of the Human Resource Information System (HRIS);
  • Updating and maintaining all payroll records and tables, including compliance to current legislation;
  • Providing advice to employees, managers and HR team members on payroll and related matters (e.g. LSL, taxation, superannuation etc)

Why join us?

In return for your skills, energy and commitment to our mission, we offer you the opportunity to make a real impact. You’ll work every day with people who are passionate about our purpose and proud of their contribution to our iconic organisation.

As a member of the amazing team driving RFDS from behind the scenes, you’ll come to work knowing that your efforts are enabling our work in helping people in Queensland communities. Critically, you’re also helping ensure our organisation is efficient, effective and sustainable now and in the future.

Your contribution will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration circa FTE $65,000 + super (pro-rata), negotiable with skills and experience. You will also have access to generous NFP salary packaging arrangements to increase your take home pay.

Who are we looking for?

To be considered for this position you will have solid experience managing end-to-end payroll, ideally sitting within a HR team. Previous experience with SAGE MicrOpay is essential, and Chris21 experience is desirable, although this is less important since we are transitioning away from this system.

You will have advanced Excel skills and have current knowledge of applicable legislation, including superannuation, taxation and relevant employment law, as well as a general understanding and ability to interpret awards, agreements and legislation. You will have good instincts, work well under pressure and have a genuine interest in becoming part of the RFDS team by understanding the ins and outs of our business.

Importantly, we are looking for someone who is comfortable running payroll autonomously. Whilst you will be well-supported by the HR team, you will need to have a high level of initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision and direction.

Most importantly, there are three 'must-haves' that we look for in every one that joins us. We want people who:

  • Are passionate about providing the finest care to people in Queensland;
  • Go above and beyond to drive a positive, cohesive team culture - helping each other to help others;
  • Embrace the challenges our organisation faces - have the motivation to help us thrive in a competitive, commercial, KPI-driven environment
